This is an online “on-demand” course where you can learn how to restore a period dining chair using traditional upholstery techniques at your own pace.  Learning these techniques will enable you to restore other traditionally upholstered furniture.

Learning new skills encourages mental stimulation, preserves brain health and improves memory recall.  Learning a fun, creative skill can help you to slow down and learn the valuable skill of mindfulness.  And, at the end of this course, you will also have a lovingly restored period dining chair to show off about!

ABOUT THE COURSE

The course has been divided into eight easy-to-follow stages, with written guidance on each stage in the accompanying PDF guide.  Each stage varies in length from a few minutes to nine minutes.  The running time for the whole course is 49 minutes.  The video has been edited to avoid long repetitive sequences.

When you have purchased the course, you will be sent a special email address dedicated to our online courses with links to the course files.  You can email us any time with any questions or queries (please be patient: on weekdays, you may up to wait up to 48 hours for a response; and at weekends up to 72  hours for a reply). We are a small business so can’t read emails all the time.

You are also very welcome to email us photos of your work-in-progress or finished chairs so we can share them with our Instagram followers and other students.

An information guide accompanies this online on-demand course.  Downloadable in PDF format, the guide in divided into stages to accompany each stage of the training video.  It is advisable to read the relevant stage of the guide before watching the video stage.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT CHAIR FOR YOUR PROJECT

This online course is for students who wish to learn traditional upholstery methods.  So, you will need a period or antique dining chair that has coil springs in the seat.  The ideal historical periods would be Victorian and Edwardian.  If you are buying a chair from an auction house or a professional seller on a reputable site like Vinterior, Panomo or 1stdibs, the listing information should tell you the era the chair comes from and if the chair is sprung.  If you are buying a chair from a private seller on sites like eBay, the seller may not know much about the chair.  In this case, just try to clarify with the seller what era they think it is from and whether it looks and feels like it has springs.  If a chair looks old, it usually is!  When you have purchased this course, you can email us using the dedicated online course email address to ask for advice about choosing your chair.

• On receipt of the item, please look carefully for any signs of damage during transit. Please contact us within 7 days if you have any concerns. We always use reputable couriers and package our items appropriately.
• We can only consider refunds if the piece has been damaged in transit or you believe that the description and images are inaccurate, misleading or misrepresents the item. In either case, please contact us as soon as possible and we will endeavour to come up with a solution to suit both parties.
